Inter target Koulierakis as heir to De Vrij and Acerbi – Football Italia

Reports in Italy claim that Inter are already targeting a move for a new centre-back ahead of the January transfer window, and that they are keen on signing Greek defender Konstantinos Koulierakis from VfL Wolfsburg. 

Inter keen on Koulierakis to rejuvenate ageing defence

According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Koulierakis is a player who is becoming increasingly enticing to the Nerazzurri recruitment team. 

Tuesday’s report claims that Inter are already beginning to plan for life without 37-year-old Acerbi and the 33-year-old De Vrij, who are both into the final years of their contracts and are not currently expected to renew. 

The 21-year-old Koulierakis is among the candidates to come in and strengthen, and rejuvenate the Nerazzurri back line, and Inter could even be minded to make a move during the January transfer window to allow him the time to settle in and to learn from the current, experienced centre-backs in the squad before they leave at the end of their contracts. 

Koulierakis joined Wolfsburg from his boyhood team PAOK last summer at a cost of around €12m, and it is expected that his value has already doubled since then, if not, gone even higher. 

He played in 30 of a possible 33 Bundesliga matches last season, only dropping out of the team for two matches due to injury and one game immediately after his transfer from PAOK went through.

There were reports two years ago that Milan were also interested in a deal for Koulierakis while he was still a teenager at PAOK, but a move to San Siro did not materialise on that occasion.
