Inzaghi hails Inter after huge 30m Al-Hilal offer: ‘Have everything I want here’

Simone Inzaghi admits he has some doubts over the Inter line-up in the Champions League Final against PSG, but above all shuts down those Al-Hilal reports. ‘I have everything I want to do well here.’

It kicks off in Munich on Saturday May 31 at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT, 21.00 CET).

“It’s a wonderful sensation, as playing a Final is the dream of any player or coach. We have the possibility to be here again after two years, we’ll give it our all,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

This is the second Champions League Final in just three years for Inter, who were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City in Istanbul in 2023.

“The Final two years ago can help us above all in the preparation, because we mustn’t treat this as an obsession. We finally had the full squad at our disposal and got to work well in training. When it comes to the match, any single moment can be decisive,” added the coach.

Although it is the first competitive meeting with PSG, Inter have already played in this stadium this season, beating Bayern Munich 2-1 in the quarter-final.

“Having played here and eliminated Bayern Munich gave us great strength going into the semi-final with Barcelona. We also played teams like Arsenal, Manchester City, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen, so we gained belief as the tournament went on in a very tough run of fixtures.”

The Opta Supercomputer calculated that Inter are the underdogs with only a 43.4 per cent chance of lifting the trophy against Paris Saint-Germain, but Inzaghi has heard that before.

“Finals are all one-off matches played in 90 minutes. We saw two years ago that people assumed we’d be swept away by Manchester City, but that didn’t happen, and in fact we deserved to go to extra time.

“I think we deserve to be here for the way we played and how much we wanted it.”

Benjamin Pavard is expected to start in defence after recovering from injury, preferred to Yann Bisseck, but the rest of the line-up is pretty secure.

“I have a few thoughts, we’ll see this afternoon who is in the best shape. If Pavard shows he is fully fit, then he will play, as he is a very important player for us,” revealed Inzaghi.

Inter have not won the Champions League since Jose Mourinho’s Treble in 2010, but this is their second Final in just three years.

“I am very proud. We are fortunate to work with a splendid club and with players who are great guys, who gave me everything they had. We won, we lost, but this sense of belonging is what reassures me the most.”

Will that kind of bond help Inzaghi decide on his future after a huge offer from Al-Hilal, believed to be worth €30m per season?

“Without doubt, but as I said before, we really want to play this game and our only thought right now is on the match. I already said many times that I am happy at this club, so I have everything I want to do well and keep achieving satisfaction here.”
