Inzaghi nearing Inter renewal: Outperforming Mourinho’s treble winners – Football Italia – March 18 latest

Simone Inzaghi is reportedly nearing an agreement to extend his contract with Inter at the end of the current season as the club continue to dream of completing an historic treble with a side that is currently outperforming Jose Mourinho’s famed 2009-10 team.

Inter are still in the mix for the treble in 2024-25. The Nerazzurri are top of the Serie A standings after a statement 2-0 win over challengers Atalanta at the weekend, they are into the Champions League quarter-finals after seeing off Feyenoord, and will challenge rivals Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-finals in April.

The Italian press are already drawing comparisons to Mourinho’s treble winning Nerazzurri side from 2010, but the Serie A standings show that Inzaghi’s current team are outperforming their predecessors in terms of results.

As things stand, Inter sit three points clear at the top of the Serie A table with a tally of 64 points. At the same stage of the 2009-10 season, Mourinho was one point above Milan at the top of the table with a total of 60 points, four fewer than the current team.

The current Nerazzurri side are also outsourcing Mourinho’s treble winners in Serie A, with the Lautaro Martinez/Marcus Thuram-led attacking unit having racked up 65 league goals this season, compared to 54 at the same stage of 2009-10. Mourinho’s treble winners had conceded one goal less than the current side.

Inzaghi heading for Inter contract extension

According to Tuesday’s reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inzaghi looks set to sign a new extension to his contract at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Pink Paper suggests that he will add another two years onto the end of his current deal, extending his Nerazzurri commitment until the summer of 2028.
