Since his arrival from Hibernian FC in 2021, Jackson Irvine has become a pivotal figure for FC St. Pauli, captaining the team since the summer of 2023.

In an interview with Sport Bild, the 32-year-old midfielder revealed that he could see himself staying at St. Pauli until he hangs up his boots.

“What could be better than playing in the Bundesliga here in this environment until the end of my career? In a perfect world, I would play here in the Bundesliga for years to come,” Irvine said in the interview.

Meanwhile, he is uncertain whether he will return to his native Australia when his playing days are over.

“There is no football culture in Australia like there is in Europe. A lot of people don’t realise how important football is in my life because I have a lot of other interests like fashion, music and politics. But I would really struggle if I couldn’t just turn on the television and watch football,” he said.

Irvine last extended his contract in the summer of 2024 and it’s unclear when it will expire.
