Is Declan Rice injured? Arsenal star withdrawn at half time against Tottenham

Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw in the first north London derby of the season, and Declan Rice was substituted at half time.

The England international started the game against Tottenham but didn’t emerge for the second half and was replaced by Jorginho.

Jorginho’s error then allowed James Maddison to set up Heung-min Son for the final goal in the game.

But the biggest concern for Arsenal and their fans was Rice’s withdrawal.

The England international clearly wanted to be out there helping his side, but he couldn’t.

And after the game, Mikel Arteta confirmed that Rice couldn’t carry on due to discomfort in his back.

He said: “Rice had some discomfort in his back.

“He was telling us during the first half that he was not comfortable.

“Hopefully, he won’t be out for any period of time.

“But it’s strange that a player like him has to come off, so we’ll see.”

No matter what way you dress that up, it’s a concerning update, and with Thomas Partey also injured, that Arsenal midfield is suddenly starting to look a bit thin.

Rice will now go for tests to assess the extent of the damage, but Gunners supporters around the world face a nervous wait.
