Is Matildas star Mary Fowler getting an English accent? Fans are saying YES after watching this video – you be the judge

  • Matildas star Mary Fowler has seemingly lost her Aussie twang
  • Some football fans felt she sounded English in recent interview
  • Fowler will be a key figure for Matildas at Paris Olympics in July

Football fans have claimed Matildas star Mary Fowler is fast developing an English accent following a recent interview from a Women’s Super League match.

Fowler, 21, chatted after starring with two goal assists during Manchester City‘s commanding 4-1 victory over Liverpool and her distinctive Australian twang appeared to have undergone a change.

The footage was later uploaded to TikTok – and most supporters were convinced that she sounded noticeably different.

‘What’s with the English accent,’ one fan asked.

Another posted in response: ‘That is what happens when you move to a different country for a few years.’

A third weighed in with: ‘Loving her English accent. Nailed it.’

Fowler joined the Citizens from French side Montpellier HSC in 2022, and while her talent is obvious, she has been often been used as an impact player from the bench.

In the title race, Gareth Taylor’s squad are current ladder leaders ahead of Chelsea – but the Blues have one game up their sleeve.

With the international break now in full swing, Fowler has swapped the gloomy weather in England for a bit of sun in the US.

It comes as the Matildas tackle on Mexico in Texas on April 10 from 9.30am AEDT.

The friendly is another opportunity for coach Tony Gustavsson to fine-tune his squad, with their first match at the Paris Olympics versus Germany on July 26.

The Swede will only be able to submit 18 players, meaning some big names will miss out on selection.

Following the clash against Mexico, the Matildas will assemble back in Australia for a two-match series against China in Adelaide (May 31) and Sydney (June 3) respectively.
