Here’s what Bayer Leverkusen’s attack minded full-back had to say about his future ambitions.

Speaking to Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Alejandro Grimaldo gave his assessment of the last two years and his wish to play in Spain one day.

“I am very happy at the club. It has been two very special years with Xabi [Alonso], with the team, with titles. I now want to prepare myself and continue working towards my goals.

“When I came to Leverkusen, I made my goals very clear to the club. I have always been a straightforward player and I am someone who likes to bring my personality to the fore.

“My goal is to give my all wherever I am. I have given my all for Leverkusen. And I will always give 100 percent during my time here, but everyone has their goals.

“I am almost 30 years old and would like to try my hand in Spain, playing in my home country. It doesn’t have to be this year. It could be next year, it could be in two years, or even five years.

“Maybe it will never happen, but I’m sure the club understands my position. I always give 100 percent on the pitch and that won’t change,” the full-back explained.
