Italiano warning to Bologna: ‘Not always possible to complete comebacks’ for 2-1 win

Vincenzo Italiano confirms Bologna have their sights set on Europe after beating Milan and Cagliari, but warns ‘it is not always possible to complete comebacks.’

The Rossoblu are on sparkling form at the moment and confirmed their determination too, once again fighting back from a goal down to win 2-1.

They did the same in Thursday’s rescheduled Week 9 fixture with Milan and today overturned Cagliari thanks to a Riccardo Orsolini brace, after Roberto Piccoli’s opening header.

Italiano admires Bologna character

“In three days, we picked up six valuable points,” said Italiano in his press conference.

Nobody has earned more points from trailing situations this season than Bologna, as they now have an extra 16 from turning games around.

“We made life a bit complicated for ourselves in the first half and conceding that goal angered me, because it was the only situation where we needed to defend and we didn’t do it properly.

“It is not always possible to complete comebacks and get games on track, but it was another great reaction, and we can only be satisfied with this week.”

Things are going so well for Bologna lately, as while they went out of the Champions League in the group phase, they are surging in Serie A and will face Empoli in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

“The objective is to get back into Europe. We’ve got to give our all in these remaining matches and try to qualify for one of the three UEFA competitions,” continued Italiano.

“The atmosphere in the stadium is fantastic and pushes the lads to stay permanently focused, so we are trying to make the most of that advantage. Where we need to improve is away from home.

“Perfection does not exist, so there will always be some mistakes, but this team has shown it can do great things with the crowd behind it.”
