Italy stance on Gattuso revealed after Gravina and Buffon talks – Football Italia

Gennaro Gattuso remains the leading candidate to take over as head coach of the Italy national team after holding talks with FIGC President Gabriele Gravina and delegation chief Gianluigi Buffon over the last few days, Football Italia understands. 

Where Gattuso stands after latest talks for Italy job

Italy are looking to appoint a new CT following the departure of Luciano Spalletti after the 2-0 win over Moldova on Monday night. 

Gattuso is the current frontrunner for the job, and has recently held discussions with both Gravina and Buffon to discuss the project further. Gattuso met with Gravina on Thursday, where he was able to present his ideas for the new Azzurri project.

Football Italia understands that Gattuso remains the favourite for the Italy job  after Thursday’s round of talks with Gravina. 

Talks between Gattuso and the FIGC are now effectively at the final stages, and the federation are understood to be keen on making an appointment sooner rather than later.
