Yussuf Poulsen was warmly celebrated on his return to RB Leipzig by the fans of his now former club, who unveiled a special tifo in his honor ahead of Saturday’s game against Hamburger SV.

Poulsen, Leipzig’s record appearance holder with 425 games over a 12-year spell at the club, was featured at the center of the tifo, surrounded by a collection of photos taken with him and fans throughout his time at the club.

The gesture clearly moved the HSV captain, and he did not hide his emotions when speaking to Kicker after the game.

“Those were images that were created during the twelve years between me and the fans,” he said.

“You don’t experience something like that every day. It was very special for me. When my career eventually ends, it’s something that will stay with me.”

Poulsen, however, was left frustrated by HSV’s defeat and by missing the chance to score on his return.

“I’m the kind of guy who thrives on emotions. I immediately had many intense runs, many duels and I would have loved to score at the end.”
