Jack Grealish issued a rallying cry for Manchester City to forget about European heartache and focus on embracing the prospect of creating more history.

Pep Guardiola’s side – now two points clear in the Premier League title race – are at Wembley again on Saturday for the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

No English team has ever completed consecutive domestic Doubles but City need to pick themselves up after the defeat by Real Madrid on penalties earlier in the week.

Grealish, who insists he wants to cherish his peak years by lifting more silverware, believes City can bounce back.

‘Luckily enough for us we’ve got another massive game within three days where we can go and put it right,’ the 28-year-old said. ‘Sometimes it’s better when it’s like that. I think a lot of [tiredness] is in your mind.

‘You speak to people who have retired and they’ll all tell you it’s about winning stuff. That’s what you look back on. I want to win as much as I can before I retire.

‘People remember the good stuff. A Double is perfect. Winning both would be a hugely successful season. If we can put on performances between now and the end of the season, we can end it successfully.’

Grealish reiterated that he owes Guardiola big displays over the next month after the manager stood by him this season – and warned City to take care of Cole Palmer.

‘I was one person who always raved about Cole,’ he added. ‘I always said how good he was. I could see it every day in training. I’m very happy for him that he’s gone somewhere and he’s playing because he’s a really good guy, a nice lad who I got on well with.

‘I’m happy that he’s gone on and he’s playing well and playing regularly. I think that that was the reason why he left here because he wanted to play. I’m happy for him, I just hope he doesn’t have the best game on Saturday.’
