Jadon Sancho: Future of Man Utd flop is staring everyone in the face

Jadon Sancho is a red-hot talking point as the summer transfer window approaches, with the future of the Manchester United star, who is on loan from Chelsea, subject to endless transfer rumours and gossip.

Sancho’s future seemed to have been resolved last summer when he completed a deal with Chelsea that was supposed to result in a transfer valued around the €25 million mark.

Instead, the Blues are now getting ready to pay Man Utd to break that deal, hurtling the future of the 24-year-old winger back into doubt.

An endless string of rumours have followed, with the latest of these coming from GMS, which claims that Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are tracking Sancho. It is claimed Chelsea could sign him and then sell him on.

But while the England star continues to generate headlines, unless there is a dramatic concession from either Sancho or Man Utd, his future looks decided: he is going nowhere.

Sancho is stuck

Sancho finds himself stuck in limbo.

Even if United are still willing to accept around €25m, making him an affordable player from the perspective of his transfer fee, his wages pose a huge issue. With a reported salary of €300,000 per week, he’s on superstar money that anything but a giant club cannot afford to pay.

And while once such sides might have taken a gamble on Sancho, having viewed his experience at Chelsea and Man Utd, that will surely not be the case in the summer ahead.

His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) reveals just how quickly his stock has fallen. He was signed by Man Utd when he still boasted an ETV of €108.7 million. That has tumbled to just €36.2m currently.

Put into context, that makes him just the 87th most valuable attacker in the world, behind even suspended Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

Certainly, the two German clubs linked with a move will not be blowing their wage budget to sign him. Sancho’s return to Dortmund on loan in the second half of last term gained a mythical status due to a staggering performance against PSG in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, but it was overall disappointing. Leverkusen, meanwhile, will not be shattering their pay scale to take a punt on him.

How can the problem to solved?

Of course, the current state of play does not suit either Man Utd or Sancho, who presumably wants to play regular football and regain his form.

The attacker, though, is only human. It is unlikely he will be willing to give up millions to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

If a deal is to be made, a concession will need to be made somewhere, and the probability is that it will have to come from United, who may need to hand Sancho a big payoff to leave. After all, he is under contract until 2026.

Unless that happens, Sancho is unlikely to be going anywhere. Any club that could fund a deal will not want him, and any team that might sign him simply cannot afford to.
