Jamie Carragher has called on Liverpool chiefs to pay Mohamed Salah ‘what he wants’ after the Egyptian broke yet another record against Newcastle.

The winger’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season and he claimed that there are no new offers to stay on the table from Anfield chiefs in a shock interview after he inspired the Reds to a 3-2 win at Southampton on November 24.

The forward, 32, conducted a rare chat with Mail Sport and a small group of other reporters after scoring twice in the away victory, where he said he was ‘more out than in’ and criticised the club.

Discussion about Salah’s next career move have only accelerated since that interview and the forward has been linked to PSG in recent days thanks to his good relationship with club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.

And the Egyptian provided yet another reminder of his importance to Arne Slot‘s men at St James’s Park, helping the Reds to come back from behind twice with two goals and an assist, before Fabian Schar provided a last-minute equaliser for the Magpies.

The performance meant that he broke Wayne Rooney‘s record for the most Premier League games where he has scored and assisted with a whopping 37.

It has taken Salah just 277 matches to achieve the feat, which is 214 fewer games than the Englishman.

And former Liverpool captain Carragher has now demanded his former side to shell out on a new contract for the star in a watchalong with the Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet.

After Salah squared the ball into the box for Curtis Jones to stab home a leveller at the start of the second-half, the pundit said: ‘Get in, Go ahead Cutis lad. 1-1. Get paid. Give him (Salah) what he wants. Yeah he (Salah) was (selfish) but he’s not now.

Things got even livelier when Salah struck an equaliser himself to get things back to 2-2.

‘Goal! The Redmen are back,’ Carragher said. ‘Mo Salah. Give him what he wants, give him what he wants.

‘Why don’t they just give him the contract?! Give them (Trent and Salah) what they want. Come on.’

Fellow host Gary Neville replied: ‘FSG (Fenway Sports Group) are scrimping and saving trying to get him on the cheap.’

Unsurprisingly, further bedlam ensued when the Egyptian star fired Liverpool into a 3-2 lead shortly after as Carragher climbed all over Neville and knocked a painting off the wall.

He said: ‘Give him what he wants.’

Neville replied: ‘F*** off honestly. Sat there asking for a draw, honestly.’

The former Manchester United captain soon got his wish as Schar slid in at the back post to provide a last-minute equaliser after Caoimhín Kelleher completely misjudged the flight.

The Liverpool star, who continues to refuse to let the mounting speculation affect his game, revealed on Sunday that the statement victory could be his last match against City.

He told Sky Sports: ‘That was in my head, that, until now, this is possibly the last City game that I play for Liverpool so I’m going to enjoy it. The atmosphere was incredible so I’m going to enjoy every second here and if we just win the league and see what will happen.’

Salah now has 223 goals for Liverpool in 368 matches since joining from Roma in 2017 and he will prove a huge loss to the Anfield side if he leaves on a free transfer next summer.
