Jamie Carragher committed a ‘cardinal sin’ after answering the phone LIVE on TV. The former Liverpool star has become a popular pundit on both sides of the Atlantic since hanging up his boots in 2013.

He is a regular on Sky Sports but it’s his work on American network CBS that has regularly got fans talking. That was no different on Wednesday evening as Carragher was tasked with analysing Aston Villa’s Champions League clash with French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The former defender’s phone started ringing mid-broadcast, to which host Kate Abdo said: “Oh my God, that is like a cardinal sin of television, who is it, who is it?”

Fellow pundit Micah Richards responded: “Well, stop it then!”, while Thierry Henry watched on. Carragher then revealed that the mystery caller was his daughter Mia, before he answer the phone and said: “Hiya babe, are you okay? I’m on TV.”

Richards joked: “Well, there goes the Emmy,” before Carragher explained that the call was simply Mia asking where her mum was. Unsurprisingly, the Liverpool icon did not have the answer that she was looking for as he said: “I don’t know, I’m in London, babe. I’m in the studio.”

The exchange continued with Scott asking Carragher if Mia would like to go on loud speaker, which she did. Richards told her that she had brought the live broadcast to an end, to which she replied: “Oh my God, I am so sorry. I didn’t have a clue [he was on live TV].”

Carragher had a very amusing response to that comment as he said: “Are you not putting the dodgy box on?” in reference to CBS’ coverage not being available in the UK. Scott could then not resist a cheeky question of her own. She asked: “I am so interested, your dad can be a little bit spiky on TV, what’s he like at home?” to which Mia replied: “He is lovely.”

Carragher rounded off the call with a few heart-warming comments. He said: “I love you more than anything my girl. What a star,” before adding: “There is nothing this girl can ever do wrong. I can’t ever shout at her, I find it hard to shout at you don’t I?”

Mia agreed but revealed he does so “now and again”. As Carragher hung up, she said “I love you”, drawing collective ‘awws’ from Scott, Henry and Richards.
