Jamie Carragher has trolled Gary Neville over a tweet where the former Manchester United defender quizzed whether Liverpool or Chelsea are closer to winning the Premier League.

Liverpool moved five points clear of the top of the league, and 20 ahead of their opponents on Wednesday night, thanks to a convincing 4-1 victory at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side secured the win thanks to goals from Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz.

Sky Sports pundit Neville quizzed after a goalless draw between the two sides last April whether Chelsea were closer to winning a Premier League title, than Liverpool or Manchester United.

The day after the 0-0 draw last year where Chelsea had the best of the opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Neville tweeted: ‘Are Chelsea closer to a PL title than Manchester United or Liverpool next season.

Carragher is notoriously keen to mock Neville through his old tweets on social media

‘Just watching last night and Sunday’s United game with the respective benches, who is further away.’

Despite Chelsea’s heavy spending in their first season under the ownership of Todd Boehly, 62 per cent of people voted at the time that they were not closer to the title than the Reds or their fierce rivals United.

Though Chelsea fans felt hard done by due to a number of decisions that went against them, the Reds thoroughly dominated proceedings on Wednesday night – with 28 shots compared to their opponent’s four.

They could have scored more goals on the night, with Darwin Nunez setting the record for most times hitting the woodwork in a Premier League game since records for that statistic began.

It’s clear from last night’s game that Chelsea are further away from a title than Liverpool at this moment in time.

The Blues are tenth in the Premier League with a fight on their hands just to make the European places.

Liverpool meanwhile have made giant strides since their underwhelming campaign last year, with the Reds hoping to finish Klopp’s helm at the club on a high – after the German announced he would leave at the end of the season.

Man United are also ahead of Chelsea, albeit, just by one point going into their clash with Wolves on Thursday night.

Chelsea, who have spent more than £1bn under the ownership of Boehly, hope to win their first trophy under his regime when they play Liverpool later this month in the Carabao Cup final.
