Jamie Redknapp has slammed Manchester United’s first-half performance against Brentford on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag‘s side entered the clash at the Gtech Community Stadium buoyed by their thrilling FA Cup victory over Liverpool prior to the international break.

However, in the first half the team produced an entirely listless performance, as Brentford enjoyed the lion’s share of the chances with Ivan Toney being denied an opening goal by the woodwork.

Speaking at half-time on punditry Jamie Redknapp insisted that he was astounded by the lack of effort on display from the visitors.

‘I think Man United fans would have been really looking forward to tonight after what was the back of brilliant result against Liverpool, and you thought it might have turned their season around.’ Redknapp said.

‘They have been so bad tonight. I cannot believe the lack of effort, the lack a spark desire to win individual battles to make things happen in that team.’

Marcus Rashford has endured a difficult campaign both on and off the pitch after having so much success in front of goal last season.

In the first 45 minutes at Brentford the forward struggled to have any impact on the action, and Redknapp claimed that his poor performance was indicative of a lack of effort.

‘Watching Marcus Rashford he’s walking around like it’s a bit of fun out there.’ He continued.

‘It’s the Premier League. You’ve got to try win games. We’ve been amazed at how poor Manchester United have been.’
