Jamie Redknapp has aimed at dig at Arsenal set piece coach Nicolas Jover after the Gunners fell behind in their Carabao Cup semi-final following a Newcastle set-piece.

The Magpies took the lead in the 37th minute of their semi-final at the Emirates, with Alexander Isak pouncing on a loose ball in the box.

Newcastle defender Sven Botman had won the initial header from a direct ball forwards, before Jacob Murphy’s touch ran into Isak’s path for the in-form striker to finish.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp highlighted how despite Isak’s lethal form in front of goal, the Swedish star had been marked by Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard.

Redknapp noted how Arsenal set piece coach Jover had received plaudits throughout the season owning to the Gunners’ impressive record from dead ball situations, but suggested as a result he should take part of the blame for Isak’s goal.

‘The set piece coach gets a lot of credit he obviously doesn’t do the defensive one,’ Redknapp quipped.

Redknapp questioned why goalscorer Alexander Isak was being marked by Martin Odegaard

‘Because how you can have Odegaard marking him, he’s the best centre forward in the country now, you’ve got to say, where is, let’s mark him. Odegaard’s got no interest in marking him.

‘He just gets into a really good position – if you’re doing something – look at Alexander Isak, he’s the wrong side of Odegaard. Someone’s got to take responsibility.

‘I know Newcastle are a big side, but Arsenal are a big side. You cannot have the best centre forward in the country in that much space. It’s nonsensical to me.’
