Are Bayern Munich signing another great German talent from the Bundesliga? After already securing the services of Hoffenheim’s Tom Bischof for the coming seasons, der Rekordmeister is now very interested in Mainz superstar Jonathan Burkardt.
Florian Plettenberg (Sky Germany) reports that Burkardt would be an ideal solution for Bayern Munich’s squad for next season: the plan would be for him to be a backup to superstar Harry Kane at first, but they can also see him becoming Kane’s successor in the future.
The 24-year-old is having an outstanding season with Mainz so far, scoring 15 Bundesliga goals in 22 games – making him the best-scoring Mainz player ever in a single Bundesliga season. Mainz currently rank 3rd in the Bundesliga.
While Bayern haven’t decided to go all-in for Burkardt just yet, they appreciate his profile and potential a lot. Leverkusen, Frankfurt and a few clubs from the Premier League have also been keeping tabs on the Mainz striker.
Burkardt’s current contract at Mainz runs until June 2027. The striker is part of the German national team at the moment and started the most recent game against Italy (2-1) up-front.
