Jordan Henderson was left stunned after being asked if Ajax’s 2-2 draw against Fortuna Sittard on Sunday was his ‘worst performance’.
The England international joined the Eredevisie giants in January after calling time on his controversial stint playing in the Saudi Pro League.
Henderson has become a key figure in Aajx’s first-team since moving to Amsterdam, with the club resurrecting their season after previously flirting with relegation.
The 33-year-old played the entirety of the game that saw the hosts initially trail 2-1 at the Johan Cryuff Arena before Brian Brobbey’s 88th-minute strike rescued a draw.
The result leaves Ajax six-points adrift of the Eredevisie’s top four and Henderson cut an awkward figure as he was taken down an intense line of questioning post-match.

Speaking to ESPN in the tunnel, Henderson was directly asked: ‘Was this the worst game of the season since you are here and maybe your worst performance?’
The former Liverpool captain initially laughed before sternly responding: ‘No because we didn’t lose as you’ve just asked us before the camera came on.’
The interviewer attempts to ruffle Henderson further by doubling-down on his initial claim and bizarrely continuing: ‘You said we didn’t lose but…’
Henderson interrupted: ‘So it’s always worse when you lose the game yeh.’
Next swerving to a more tactical question about Ajax’s use of ‘too many square balls’, Henderson offers an explanation for his side’s sub-par performance, stating: ‘When you don’t perform well, you keep going right until the end and we didn’t lose the game.’
The cringeworthy exchange eventually ends with Henderson telling the reporter ‘you can call it what you want’ after being asked whether he can label it a ‘poor performance’.
Henderson has endured a mixed campaign since moving to the Netherlands and is now waiting to find out if he has been picked in Gareth Southgate’s upcoming England squad.
