Julian Alvarez responds to €120m Arsenal offer

Arsenal have already made a €120 million offer for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, according to a journalist.

The Argentina international is expected to become one of the protagonists of the summer transfer window. Alvarez’s move to Atletico Madrid, which was reportedly worth as much as €95m, has not quite worked out.

The 25-year-old has not managed to get his hands on any silverware so far. Atleti’s most realistic chance of winning a trophy this term is in the Copa del Rey, where they hold a 4-0 lead over Barcelona after the first leg of their semi-final tie.

In LaLiga, Diego Simeone’s men are miles off the pace. This general state of affairs is said to have frustrated Alvarez, who will explore his options in the upcoming window.

Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and PSG have all been linked with him in recent weeks, but the Argentine is said to have a clear plan for his future in mind that is set to frustrate two of his suitors.

Alvarez responds to Arsenal offer

According to journalist Ruben Uria, Arsenal already attempted to sign Alvarez last summer, only to be rebuffed by both the club and the player. “The English side offered him a five-year contract worth €12 million net per season,” the reporter claimed on YouTube.

“Arsenal made Atletico de Madrid an offer of €100 million plus €20 million in bonuses for Julian Alvarez during the Club World Cup. The club said no, stating that Julian Alvarez was not for sale.”

Uria asserts that Arsenal are still keen on the 25-year-old. Crucially, however, Alvarez has no intention of returning to the Premier League after his spell at Man City. At the time of his exit, it was claimed that the English climate influenced his decision to leave.

“Arsenal remains interested in the player, but as of February 16th, Julian Alvarez doesn’t want to go to the English team or return to the Premier League,” Uria stated.

The journalist then added that none of Barcelona’s four presidential candidates have to date held talks with Alvarez, despite the player being widely believed to be the Catalans’ top summer target. It follows reports that sporting director Deco has already spoken to Alvarez’s camp.

“As far as I know, no candidate for the Barcelona presidency has spoken with Julian Alvarez or met with him,” Uria said. Lastly, he addressed PSG’s long-standing interest in the striker. Alvarez himself has admitted that the Ligue 1 giants tried to sign him when he left Man City.

And indeed, PSG remain firmly in the mix for Alvarez, according to Uria: “And Paris Saint-Germain enquired about the striker again this winter transfer window.”

Alvarez is generally happy in Madrid, but he does want to win the biggest trophies in football again. “He doesn’t want to lie to people. He’s not going to say he’s staying at Atletico forever because he doesn’t know for sure,” Uria explained

“He wants to win titles with a top-level team. He doesn’t want to leave; he’s happy in Madrid. He’s very grateful to everyone at Atleti, both the staff and the fans.”
