Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed his plans to return to the club this season, but admitted he fears being a ‘jinx’ as the Reds close on the Premier League title.

Klopp has not been back to Merseyside since quitting the club at the end of last season.

The German ended his legendary nine-year spell having led the club to Premier League and Champions League glory during his time at Anfield, as well as lifting the FA Cup and two League Cups.

Klopp’s absence has allowed Arne Slot to enjoy a fine debut season without distraction.

Liverpool are currently 13 points clear of nearest rivals Arsenal in the title race, with the Reds having just 10 matches still to play.

Klopp confirmed his intention to return to Liverpool to join fans in celebrating the likely Premier League title.

Speaking at a charity event in South Africa, Klopp admitted he has been reluctant to attend a match so far to not be viewed as a ‘jinx’ should the Reds suffer defeat when he returns to Anfield.

He expects to make his return to the club on the final day of the season, when Liverpool host Crystal Palace.

‘Yes, the plan is [to be in Liverpool] but not on the bus,’ Klopp confirmed.

‘I will be there with the people, the people I saw when we were on the bus.

“That’s the idea to be honest, but we will see. I think I will be there for the last game… I didn’t want to go earlier to be honest because I didn’t want to jinx it all the time.

‘If I’m in the stadium for the first time and they lose, “oh f*** sake”.

‘So I go there when it’s decided.’

Speaking last month, Slot revealed he had twice invited Klopp back to the club and stated the former Liverpool boss could come at any time he chooses

‘I invited him to the City and Real home games but he told me he was somewhere else in the world,’ Slot said.

‘He can come here any time he wants, to the games or even to this building (at the training ground in Kirkby).

‘For me, he is more than welcome. In the first half of the season he was enjoying life, with his wife, and at this moment he has a job to do.’

Klopp had enjoyed time off after leaving Liverpool last summer, before beginning his new role as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull at the start of January.
