Jurgen Klopp will make a SHOCK return to the managerial touchline in a few weeks – only three months after leaving Liverpool to take a break from coaching

Jurgen Klopp will return to the touchline once again three months after his shock exit from Liverpool.

The 57-year-old stunned the world of football in January when he announced that he would be leaving the Reds and stepping away from football for an extended period.

His final game in charge of the Merseyside club came in May, a 2-0 win over Wolves, before Arne Slot took the reins from him.

The German has been enjoying his summer, travelling to various events that range from the Euro 2024 final to a Taylor Swift concert, while also building a new villa in Majorca.

But now he is ready to return to the dugout as he will take charge of his former side Borussia Dortmund in a farewell match for his former players Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski.

The testimonial match will take place on 7 September and was announced via a funny video on Dortmund’s Instagram.

It starts as a call between the former Dortmund duo, who are looking for a coach to manage the two sides in the match.

Piszczek tells Blaszczykowski: ‘Kollega, we have a farewell game, do you know that? We need a coach and I have an idea, we’ll call the retired coach’.

Suddenly, Klopp joins the video call with a smile on his face, wearing sunglasses and a white t-shirt.

‘You finally have your farewell game,’ Klopp said. ‘Oh my god. And you want to train before the game. Are you stupid?’

His former players start laughing at Klopp’s lighthearted comment, before trying to figure out which team their former boss will manage.

Klopp doesn’t seem to mind who. He said: ‘I couldn’t care less. I do it like I used to, I start thinking about it five minutes beforehand.’ He then added: ‘Is the game sold out? I’d buy a ticket if I wasn’t coming anyway.’

The German is seen as a hero in Dortmund. During seven years as boss, Klopp won two Bundesliga titles in a row.

He also brought home the DFB-Pokal twice as well as two DFL-Supercups, before leaving in 2015.

Liverpool then beckoned for Klopp and he led the Reds to their first Premier League title in 30 years back in 2020.

In May, he left Merseyside as a legend after also guiding them to Champions League glory in 2019, in addition to winning the Uefa Super Cup, FA Cup, and two Carabao Cups.

But stating that he was ‘running out of energy’, Klopp decided to take a sabbatical from management. Just last month, he doubled down on his decision to step away from the game.

‘As of today, that’s it for me as a coach,’ said the 57-year-old at the International Coaches’ Congress in Wurzburg.

‘I didn’t quit on a whim, but it was a general decision. I’ve also coached the best clubs in the world.

‘Maybe we can talk about it again in a few months. I still want to work in football and help people with my experience and contacts. Let’s see what else there is for me.’

His decision hasn’t stopped him from being linked with a number of jobs, including the vacancy at England after Gareth Southgate’s departure.

However, no role other than one in a testimonial match seems to have lured Klopp back into the sport.

He continued: ‘At the moment, there is nothing at all in terms of jobs. No club, no country. It would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you now.

‘I’m going to do some work. I’m too young to only do padel, tennis, and grandchildren. Will that be (to) coach again? I would actually rule that out at the moment.’
