Juventus legend Trezeguet: ‘My biggest regret is losing the 2003 Champions League Final to Milan’ – Football Italia

David Trezeguet revisited one of the most painful moments of his Juventus career while speaking at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, recalling the 2003 Champions League Final defeat to Carlo Ancelotti’s Milan.

That all-Italian clash at Old Trafford ended goalless before Milan triumphed 3-2 on penalties, securing one of the club’s most memorable European titles after eliminating Inter in the semi-finals and then defeating Juventus in the final.

Reflecting on that night, with quotes via MilanNews24, the former France striker admitted it remained the biggest regret of his career.

“Juve had this idea that we had to win, that nothing else mattered. Morally we arrived in a better condition than Milan, but it wasn’t a beautiful game. What mattered was winning, and we didn’t manage to do it. That’s the biggest regret of my career.”

Trezeguet also revealed his disappointment at never returning to a Champions League Final despite Juventus’ later signings.

“Seeing the great players who arrived in the following years, I thought we’d get back there, but we never did. Let me say this – from 2000 to 2006 there was one Juventus, and from 2006 to 2010 I stayed, but it was something different. Inside, I felt the team no longer had the capacity to reach that trophy, the Champions League.”

The Frenchman spent ten years at Juventus, from 2000 to 2010, playing 320 times for the Bianconeri in all competitions and scoring 171 goals.
