Juventus reach agreement to release sporting director Giuntoli – Football Italia

Multiple outlets in Italy are reporting that Juventus have reached a mutual agreement to terminate the contract of sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli after two years at the Allianz Stadium. 

According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio and others, Juventus and Giuntoli have reached an agreement to part ways via mutual consent. The Bianconeri executive had been under contract until the summer of 2028, having penned a five-year deal at the time of his signing. 

Tuesday’s reports claim that the decision to part company with Giuntoli had already been taken by John Elkann, but now, an agreement to terminate their working relationship has now been found, and that an official announcement is expected shortly. 

Juventus have already begun to restructure their senior management after the end of the 2024-25 season, having already appointed Damien Comolli as the club’s new general manager, while Giorgio Chiellini is expected to be given a more senior role heading into the 2025-26 campaign. 

Juventus are still expected to seek a substitute sporting director to replace Giuntoli in the near future. 

Giuntoli leaves Juventus after two years 

Giuntoli joined the Old Lady as sporting director in the summer of 2023, immediately after his former club, Napoli, had won the 2022-23 Scudetto. 

Juventus were excluded from competing in UEFA competitions during Giuntoli’s first season with the club, which led to a massively restricted transfer window, with Timothy Weah the only new arrival of the summer transfer window. 

Giuntoli’s second summer transfer window brought significant investments in the form of Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta, Khephren Thuram from OGC Nice, Nico Gonzalez from Fiorentina, Michele Di Gregorio from Monza and a straight loan deal for Francisco Conceicao from Porto. 

Juventus also sold a number of high-profile talents under Giuntoli’s watch, most notably Dean Huijsen to AFC Borunemouth, who has since left to join Real Madrid.

Italy internationals Moise Kean and Nicolo Fagioli were also sold to Fiorentina, Matias Soule to Roma and Federico Chiesa to Liverpool.

Giuntoli also brought in Thiago Motta as head coach, but the former Bologna tactician was unable to last the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign, and was replaced by Igor Tudor in March.
