Kane gives fitness update after Eintracht win

Harry Kane provided an update on his fitness after coming off the bench against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Harry Kane was a big doubt for Sunday’s Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt after being forced off with a haematoma at half-time of Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Celtic in the Champions League last Tuesday.

The England captain missed a couple of days of training, but eventually made the squad and came off the bench as Bayern ran out 4-0 winners.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS in a post-match interview, Kane said he didn’t feel the injury after coming off the bench.

“After the game on Tuesday, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be available for this game,” said Kane. 

“I didn’t train for a few days and tried to give it as much time as possible. We made a decision to put me on the bench, 25 minutes was perfect, it felt good,” added the striker, who should be back in the starting lineup against VfB Stuttgart on Friday.

“We have another five days until the game against Stuttgart, so by then I should be fine.”

Bayern came in for some criticism after a 0-0 draw with Bayer Leverkusen was followed by a 1-1 draw with Celtic, which saw them narrowly go through to the last 16 of the Champions League 3-2 on aggregate.

Kane felt the Bavarians answered those critics on Sunday, pointing to a tight schedule as the main reason for their brief dip in form.

“You always have to put things in perspective. I said after that game we were going through a lot of games in that period and that the bottom line was that we qualified and stayed eight points clear,” he said.

“We wanted to bring in energy. We had a bit more time to prepare and a bit more fresh legs out there. We dominated from start to finish. They’re a really good side, so to play like that them shows the quality we have.”
