Bayern Munich’s 16-game winning streak in all competitions came to an end as they drew 2-2 with 1. FC Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday after Harry Kane scored a late equaliser.
Bayern were handed an early scare when Ilyas Ansah put the ball in the back of the net from a set piece in the ninth minute. However, the goal was ruled out after replays showed the striker was narrowly offside.
Union eventually broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. Janik Haberer played a short corner to Danilho Doekhi, whose shot was spilled into the net by Manuel Neuer.
For much of the first half, Bayern uncharacteristically struggled to create chances. But then, out of nowhere, they struck back.
With 38 minutes on the clock, Luis Diaz slid in to keep the ball alive, and from a tight angle, the Colombian international fired it into the top corner to level the score.
Diaz had a glorious chance to score his second just before the break when he was played in behind by Harry Kane, but the Colombian completely miskicked his finish one-on-one with Frederik Rønnow, sending the ball well past goal.
Bayern thought they had another goal just before the break when Harry Kane found the net, but the England international was in an offside position.
The first real chance of the second half fell to Union Berlin just before the hour mark. Rani Khedira drove forward and picked out Janik Haberer, whose powerful shot narrowly missed the target.
At the other end, Michael Olise had a promising opportunity minutes later, but his effort at the near post was kept out by Frederik Rønnow.
Bayern kept pressing for a second goal, but instead it was Union who struck again. Josip Juranovic delivered a cross that Harry Kane headed straight into the path of Danilho Doekhi, who slotted the ball into the net for his second of the game.
Union defended their lead bravely, but they couldn’t hold out. In injury time, Tom Bischof swung in a cross, and Harry Kane rose to head home, rescuing a point for the German champions and ensuring a 2–2 draw.
