Borussia Dortmund reportedly made a €22.5 million bid for Rayan Cherki towards the end of the winter transfer window.

However, the Black and Yellows ultimately failed to bring the attacking midfielder to Germany, as Lyon turned down the offer and refused to sell the player.

“We wanted the player and negotiated for him,” confirmed Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl at a press conference on Tuesday.

“But in the end it didn’t work out. We will now continue on our path,” he added.

Olympique Lyon owner John Textor hit out at Dortmund’s bid for Cherki on deadline day, saying it was “disrespectfully communicated, well below market value and at the wrong time”.

Kehl, however, had no intention of hitting back at Textor and Lyon.

“We are not going to get involved in the little game that Lyon have been playing in the media,” he insisted.
