Kevin Müller denies plans to leave Heidenheim amid MLS speculation

Kevin Müller has hit back at claims from Heidenheim CEO Holger Sanwald, dismissing suggestions that he is actively seeking a move to the United States.

1. FC Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller has pushed back against claims that he’s looking to leave the club this summer.

Following announcement of Diant Ramaj on loan from Borussia Dortmund, CEO Holger Sanwald stated the club partly opted to bring in a new goalkeeper because Müller is interested in a transfer to the United States.

According to Sanwald, Müller had informed the club that he would consider a move to the MLS if an offer were to come in. However, the long-serving shot-stopper has firmly denied that he is actively seeking a move away from Heidenheim.

“To avoid any misunderstandings: I have never said at any point that I want to leave the club – and at the moment, I have no intention of doing so,” Müller wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

“Let me be clear: I only extended my contract at the end of January. I committed to FCH when it was anything but certain we’d still be playing in the Bundesliga next season. I did it because I identify with the club, because my family and I have felt at home in this city after ten years, and because I wanted to send a message during a difficult period.”

That said, Müller didn’t completely rule out a move to the United States.

“I’ve never made it a secret that I’m a big fan of the USA. If an interesting offer from MLS came in one day, I’d be open to listening to it. Whether it would actually lead to a move, I have no idea. As a family, we’re very much rooted in Heidenheim,” he wrote.

If he stays, Müller will begin the new season as the backup to Ramaj.

“I would’ve liked to compete for the starting spot based on performance,” he said.

“But that won’t happen – the club’s leadership has made that clear. I have to, and will, accept that.”
