Leon Goretzka deserves to be brought back into the Germany squad, according to Bayern Munich teammate Joshua Kimmich.

Goretzka hasn’t represented his country since November 2023, but Kimmich believes he’s done enough to deserve a recall.

“It will always be the case that hopefully the best players will be nominated. He is one of the best at the moment,” Kimmich told Sky Germany after Bayern’s 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.

Goretzka himself said before the Leverkusen game that he hadn’t had any contact with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann recently, but that he would be ready if needed.

“I’ve played every game for my country with pride and hope there are more to come. If Julian calls, I’ll answer and talk to him,” Goretzka said.

Goretzka has played 57 games for Germany, racking up 14 goals and 11 assists.
