Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich cut a happy figure after his side secured a 2-0 win over RB Leipzig to advance to the DFB-Pokal semi-finals this evening.

“In the first 20 minutes, we lacked control, and Leipzig were dangerous. We made too many mistakes in possession, and it was too easy for them to press us.

“After that, we got things under control. In the second half, we were dominant; we didn’t concede much, we were dangerous going forward, decided the game, and then saw it out well.

“The most important thing today was that we allowed very few chances in the end and kept them away from our goal,” the midfielder said in his post-match interview in the mixed zone.

As for coach Vincent Kompany, he was equally delighted to advance in Germany’s premier cup competition but would not give in to the notion that his side already have a hand on the trophy.

“In every competition, you have to have the feeling you can be there until the end and win the title. Everyone can have this dream. But from my side, I’m rather pragmatic.

“The performance today was good, which is why we won, and that increases the possibility of advancing further. That’s the most important thing for me. From tomorrow it’s about Werder Bremen,” Kompany added.

Bayern Munich will discover which of VfB Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen or SC Freiburg they will face in the semi-finals after the draw is made at 17:15 CET on Saturday, 22 February.
