Jürgen Klopp says he “didn’t want to step on anybody’s toes” by accepting a job with Red Bull.
Jürgen Klopp has defended his controversial decision to take over the position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer.
The decision, announced earlier this month, was met with considerable anger, with critics believing that Klopp has damaged his reputation by accepting a job with Red Bull, who are generally unpopular with German football fans due to the commercial structure implemented at RB Leipzig.
Speaking on Toni Kroos’ podcast ‘Einfach Mal Luppen’, Klopp has now defended himself, saying he didn’t mean to offend anyone.
“I didn’t want to step on anybody’s toes, definitely not, and personally I love all of my ex-clubs,” Klopp emphasized.
The former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss suggested that if he had opted to manage another club, it would also have been to the disappointment of some.
“I really don’t know what exactly I could have done for everyone to be happy,” he said.
Klopp is due to take up his new post at the start of the new year.
