Denmark manager Brian Riemer and midfielder Christian Eriksen have spoken glowingly about Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund after his exit from Manchester United.
The young attacker was forced out of Old Trafford this summer after Man Utd completed the signing of Benjamin Sesko despite the fact that he had wanted to stay and fight for his place.
Hojlund joined Napoli on a lucrative loan deal for Man Utd, with the Serie A champions paying a €6 million fee. If they qualify for the Champions League and he plays a certain number of games, his stay will become permanent for €44m.
The Denmark international has continued the trend of Man Utd ‘flops’ reviving their careers outside of Old Trafford. He netted 14 minutes into his debut and has scored three goals in his last two outings, earning rave reviews from teammates, the press and coach Antonio Conte.
The 22-year-old will look to continue his red-hot form in front of goal in Denmark’s upcoming games against Belarus and Denmark. Head coach Brian Riemer and star midfielder Christian Eriksen couldn’t be more thrilled to have an in-form Hojlund available.
Eriksen heaps praise on Hojlund
Speaking ahead of the clash with Belarus, Riemer waxed lyrical about the striker after recently accusing Man Utd of ‘not appreciating’ Hojlund over their treatment of him in the summer.
“Having adapted so quickly and having won matches twice in a row leading up to this national team meeting is an adventure that could hardly have been written better for Rasmus,” he said. “I am very happy to get a striker into top form.
“I couldn’t wish for more as the Danish national coach. When you come out on the back of a less successful stay, you hope that things will go well.
“Even though he has Kevin De Bruyne by his side, it is not that easy to meet those expectations and get that start when you come to Napoli, who are Italian champions with sky-high expectations”
Wolfsburg midfielder Eriksen, who also left Man Utd in the summer, echoed Riemer’s sentiment. “I’m incredibly happy for ‘Ralles,’ the veteran Denmark international began.
“I know what he went through at United, good and bad, but he’s always been strong mentally, and he works incredibly hard and gives it his all, so it’s just great that he’s now scoring goals.”
