Köln 4-0 Atalanta: Statement win from Kwasniok’s boys

Lukas Kwasniok’s side stunned the 2023/24 Europa League champions.

1. FC Köln recorded an impressive 4-0 victory over Atalanta in their last preseason game at the RheinEnergieStadion. Jan Thielmann, who further extended his contract last week, scored either side of half-time.

Like he did in the 3-1 win over Leicester City, Jakubon Kaminski assisted the first goal. The former Wolfsburg winger also scored his first goal for the club, with the assist coming from fellow new signing Sebastian Sebulonsen. Luca Waldschmidt makes it four from the spot-kick in the 66th minute.

Köln will travel to Regensburg for a Pokal tie before starting their Bundesliga campaign away at Mainz in two weeks time.

Meanwhile, Heidenheim also ended their preseason with a win over a Serie A club. Tim Siersleben and the sought-after attacking midfielder Léo Scienza scored the goals in a 2-1 win over Parma. Steve Mounie’s late brace helped Augsburg to draw with the newly-promoted Serie A club Pisa yesterday.
