Köln could pocket up to €5.7million should Wirtz join Liverpool

Effzeh are hoping to pocket their fair share of what could be a record transfer fee.

Should the transfer of Florian Wirtz to Liverpool go through, FC Köln could stand to profit from the deal according to BILD.

If the 22-year-old draws in a rumoured transfer fee of up to €150million, FC Köln will receive a minimum of around €3.2million.

This would be due to the FIFA’s solidarity mechanism whereby club’s who contributed to the player’s education and development receive a fee.

Wirtz infamously spent a ten-year period between 2010 and 2020 in the Effzeh youth systems before joining Leverkusen.

FC Köln are currently trying to argue that they’d be owed around €2.5million more than that, totalling up to €5.7million.
