Bayern Munich continued their perfect start to the season with a 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday.

However, as Bayern coach Vincent Kompany admitted after the game, it wasn’t as easy as the scoreline suggests.

Bayern struggled to create chances in the first half, but still took a 1-0 lead into the break and ultimately ran out 4-1 winners.

“Hoffenheim were better in the first half. They won the tackles and did almost everything right. When the first half isn’t perfect, it’s important that we show a reaction – we did that,” said the Bayern coach in a post-match interview.

“We immediately came out better in the second half and accepted that it wasn’t good enough in the first half.”

Following Bayern’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League midweek, Kompany made a number of changes to his starting lineup. Explaining this, he said:

“To be honest, I’m surprised with how often I’ve been asked this question. Come on guys, we’re in 2025. I think everyone understands now that it’s very important to use the squad and not wait until things go south before doing that.”
