Bayern Munich are out of the DFB-Pokal after going down 0-1 to Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night.

Despite having Manuel Neuer sent off in the 17th minute, the Bavarians kept the game close. But much to the disappointment of head coach Vincent Kompany, it wasn’t enough to see them through.

“It’s very, very bitter. That red card obviously had a big impact on the game,” Kompany told ARD.

“I have played with ten men many times in my career. What the boys did today was very good for long periods.

“But even if we put in a spirited performance, you can’t talk things up when you lose and get eliminated. That’s the reality.”

Kompany and Bayern will look to return to winning ways when they face Heidenheim in the Bundesliga this Saturday.
