Kompany offers team news as Bayern aim to bounce back from Arsenal defeat against St. Pauli

Vincent Kompany has provided a personnel update ahead of Bayern’s upcoming clash with St. Pauli, as he looks to guide his team back to winning ways following their defeat to Arsenal.

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has no fresh injury concerns to worry about heading into Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with FC St. Pauli.

However, following a physically demanding 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League and with a DFB-Pokal tie against 1. FC Union Berlin coming up on Wednesday, Kompany may choose to rest some players if necessary.

“We’ll have to see in final training who can do it all,” Kompany said at a press conference on Friday. 

“There are no injury problems. We’re just looking out for little things and hope the energy is 100 percent there for tomorrow.”

Naturally, the Bayern coach is eager for his team to bounce back after suffering their first defeat of the season.

“It’s good that we can show what we’re about again three days later. We never want to lose. We accept it but don’t like it. But it’s about a reaction in this phase of the season. We need to prepare for big moments so we’re there and can win,” said Kompany.

St. Pauli are in a slump, having lost eight straight Bundesliga matches, but Kompany insists his team will not take them lightly.

“I think the most important thing for us is that we don’t differentiate between Arsenal and St. Pauli in our preparations,” he said. 

“Sure, we’re playing at home and not away, but when we look at St. Pauli, we can also see what they do well. It’s been tough against them twice recently. They fought hard for a long time. We know it won’t be easy, even if they’ve lost eight times in a row. 

“The Bayern game might be different for them too – a game like this is less pressure for you when you’re at the bottom. That could be a positive effect for St. Pauli,” the Bayern coach pointed out.
