Kompany: Olise “feels comfortable” in central attacking midfield role

Will we see the 23-year-old continue in a central attacking midfield role?

Michael Olise, typically a winger by trade, played a key role on Bayern Munich’s 2-1 Supercup victory over VfB Stuttgart last Saturday.

Lining out in central attacking midfield, Vincent Kompany revealed whether the Frenchman will retain that role until Jamal Musiala’s comeback.

“It’s not about a position for the entire season. Michael played there at times last season too,” Kompany told SPORT1.

“When Jamal’s out, we have to find solutions. Michael played there very often in England and for the national team.

“It’s a possibility. Some players can play in multiple positions, but the focus is always on the team.

“Speaking to Michael, we know that he feels comfortable in both positions [right wing and attacking midfield],” he added.

The Bavarians welcome RB Leipzig for the Bundesliga curtain-raiser on Friday (8.30pm CET) to kickstart the 2025/26 campaign.
