Ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League meeting with Union Saint-Gilloise tomorrow, Vincent Kompany gave an update on Joshua Kimmich and their right-back conundrum.

“We’re constantly talking to Joshua. He was very positive in training today. We have to pay close attention to how he’s feeling. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow and to see who starts,” he added.

The Bavarians’ coach went on to discuss what he expects from their Belgian opponents and his opinions on having to play without the fans on the Südkurve which is shut for the game.

“They want to dictate the game and have possession of the ball in the league. But they thrive even more as underdogs, like in the Champions League. We have to be careful.

“That’s a pity, of course. Bayern have always been successful at home in the Champions League, and that’s always been due to the support of the fans.

“We’ll still have 70,000 fans out there, but of course we hope that this won’t happen often. The fans are very important to us,” Kompany made sure to highlight.

Bayern – currently sitting in second place in the UCL league phase standings – take on Union Saint-Gilloise at 21:00 CET tomorrow. Their final fixture will be against PSV Eindhoven next week.
