Teun Koopmeiners has raised eyebrows with his latest message on social media, writing: ‘Lots of positives to take from this week’ a few days after Thiago Motta was sacked as head coach of Juventus.

Motta was relieved of his duties on Sunday and was replaced by Igor Tudor on an interim basis the same day. The former head coach cleared out his possessions on Monday morning and his replacement conducted his first training session later that afternoon.

Koopmeiners was one of Motta’s headline signings during the summer transfer window, but has struggled to live up to expectations so far and has failed to hit the same heights for Juventus as he did during his time with Atalanta.

Even so, Motta stood by Koopmeiners and fielded him as a starter in all but two of Juve’s 18 Serie A matches from November onwards.

That is partly why Koopmeiners’s latest Instagram post, which reads: ‘Lots of positives to take from this week’, has drawn a lot of attention.

Naturally, the Bianconeri midfielder was also referring to his time away with the Netherlands national team, who were narrowly beaten on penalties after a 5-5 aggregate draw with reigning European Champions Spain in the Nations League quarter-finals over the last week.

However, given the circumstances at club level, in the aftermath of Motta’s sacking, the choice of words used for his Instagram post is questionable.
