Lamine Yamal‘s father has given his first interview since he was the victim of a brutal stabbing in the in his hometown of Mataro. 

Mounir Nasraoui, 35, was rushed to hospital after being attacked in the north of Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon. 

He is believed to have been involved in an argument with people in the area while walking his dog, before a fight broke out and Nasraoui received multiple stab wounds, according to La Vanguardia.

Three people have since been arrested by the Spanish police, accused of attempted murder, and they have confirmed a fourth has since been detained.

Nasraoui spoke to the bombastic Spanish program El Chiringuito from his hospital bed and opened up about his fear in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

‘Thank God they have just taken me up to the ward and I am a little better.’ He said. ‘We must be calmer, for the good of everyone, for mine and my family’s . 

‘I must be calmer because I have no other choice, we must think that justice will do its job and it will surely do so, that is the most important thing. Thank God, who is very great, everything has a solution.

‘Of course I was afraid, I saw myself between life and death , afraid like any human being.’

Nasraoui’s superstar son was spotted leaving the hospital where he is recovering on Thursday, having reported in for training with his club that morning. 

Yamal, naturally concerned for his father’s condition, was seen leaving the facility in Badalona near Barcelona. 

Nasraoui remains in hospital in a stable condition as it is said that an investigation into the incident, which took place at 9.10pm on Wednesday night, is still ongoing, though police confirmed they have arrested three men they were questioning.

A spokesman for the regional Mossos d’Esquadra police force said on Thursday morning: ‘I can confirm three people have been arrested following the stabbing of a man in the neighbourhood of Rocafonda in Mataro.

‘The investigation is still open and officers are still trying to establish the level of implication of those detained.

‘More arrests may take place later today. We’re not in a position to offer any more details at this stage about the arrested mens’ ages and nationalities.

‘What we can say is that the stabbing occurred at 9.10pm in a car park and the arrests took place a couple of hours later and the three people arrested were in custody by 11pm.

‘The arrests occurred in the neighbourhood of Rocafonda in Mataro. The victim was taken to hospital in Barcelona.

‘There was a previous incident involving the men believed to have been involved in the stabbing, shortly after midday yesterday.

‘That incident and the circumstances surrounding the subsequent stabbing and whether the men allegedly involved bumped into each other or the suspects laid in wait for the victim is still under investigation and is an important part of the probe because it will determine the charges the arrested men could face.’

Police are said to have been alerted by a man described locally as Mounir’s best friend following the stabbing in Frank Marshall Street.

A well-placed police source said on Thursday: ‘The knife wounds the victim suffered haven’t affected any vital organ and his life is not in danger.’

A fourth man is still being hunted by police according to local reports.

Nasraoui was admitted to an intensive care unit in Barcelona but he has since confirmed his transfer to a normal ward. 

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was among those who visited the Barcelona winger’s dad on Wednesday night in hospital following the stabbing. 

The 35-year-old had provided an update on his condition earlier on Thursday in a social message, in which he also thanked everyone for their support. 

‘Thank you all for your encouragement, I’m better now,’ He wrote on Instagram. ‘A big hug to everyone.’ 

Nasraoui has been his son’s biggest supporters over the years and was present as 17-year-old Yamal secured the European Championship title with Spain where they beat England in the final.

Yamal was Spain’s star of the tournament, with his father previously declaring that the rising superstar could ‘be greater than [Lionel] Messi.’

Nasraoui lives in the Rocafonda neighbourhood of Mataro where Yamal was raised and still honours the area with his ‘304’ celebration that see’s him reference the area’s postcode.

The 35-year-old dad hails from Morocco, but moved to Spain as a nine-year-old where he later met Yamal’s mother Sheila Ebana, with the pair later giving birth to their football prodigy son in 2007.
