Lazio released another statement confirming they had ‘for the first time’ expressed to Maurizio Sarri the sheer extent of their financial limitations, but that the coach agreed to ‘continue’ in his role.

This was the second statement in 24 hours from the club, who had been dealing with the multiple reports of tension behind the scenes regarding their transfer embargo.

Football Italia’s own Alfredo Pedullà had noted that Sarri was looking for some clarity on the truth of the situation, and it seems that finally arrived in today’s crisis meeting.

“This morning, President Claudio Lotito and coach Maurizio Sarri had a long and in-depth telephone conversation, during which the various points addressed were discussed at length regarding the regulatory situation related to the liquidity index,” read the statement from Lazio this evening.

“During the conversation, the President, for the first time, illustrated in detail the technical complexity of the legislation and its implications. Mr. Sarri, having formally acknowledged the situation in its entirety, confirmed his full availability to continue with determination the commitment made towards the Club and the fans.

“This was a choice made by the Commander, who reaffirms his strong attachment to the white and blue colours and to all the people of Lazio, an extraordinary people, who deserve seriousness and coherence.”

It confirms the earlier reporting that Sarri had agreed to continue with Lazio, which was by no means certain a few hours ago amid rumours he could hand in his resignation.

He had known when returning to the Stadio Olimpico that the situation was tough, but not to this extent where they might not be able to bring in any new players until January 2026.
