Lazio injury problems piling up during break for international duty

Lazio have fresh injury concerns for Boulaye Dia, who pulled out of international duty with Senegal, Adam Marusic, Mattia Zaccagni and Luca Pellegrini, but Nicolò Rovella has reportedly opted against surgery.

The Aquile have been stuttering badly so far this season under returning coach Maurizio Sarri and are fresh off a 3-3 thriller against Torino.

Their fitness issues are piling up, as Mattia Zaccagni was hurt before that Serie A game and is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks with an adductor strain, already ruling him out of the Italy squad.

Also missing international duty is striker Dia, who withdrew from the Senegal squad for the World Cup qualifiers, as he too has muscular issues.

Luca Pellegrini suffered a sprained right knee and it remains to be seen how long that will keep him out for, but there are hopes he could be back in time to face Atalanta after the break.

Adam Marusic is another on the treatment table and he will be sidelined for at least two weeks with the low grade lesion to the femoral bicep in the left leg.

The most important development, however, is from midfielder Rovella.

He has been struggling for months with a recurring groin problem and it was assumed a surgical solution was the best way forward.

However, the Corriere dello Sport report that Rovella decided to continue with the conservative treatment, even though it is suggested that the Lazio medical staff would’ve preferred an operation.

Matias Vecino has been out of action since mid-August with a muscular strain and should return to the squad after the break for international duty.
