The League Two clash between Walsall and Morecambe has been called off following the heavy rainfall that has swept the nation.
The decision came just an hour and 15 minutes before the crucial fourth-tier match was set to take place at the Bescott Stadium.
Sky Sports footage showed ground staff attempting to get the pitch into condition for a match to be played but, despite their valiant efforts, the game was called off.
The referee conducted a pitch inspection, where one BBC journalist claimed that ‘an audible plop’ was heard when the ball was dropped onto the pitch.
Some supporters were left frustrated with the timing of the decision, given that it was just over an hour before kick-off was set to take place.
