Arsenal suffered a new injury blow when Leandro Trossard was forced off the field against Bayern Munich and the Belgian forward is set to join other injured stars on the sidelines
Leandro Trossard will undergo further tests with Arsenal’s medical staff to understand the extent of the injury he sustained in midweek. The Belgian attacker felt a problem with his calf during Arsenal’s impressive Champions League win over Bayern Munich.
Trossard was replaced after 38 minutes against the Bundesliga champions, having come into the game off the back of goalscoring performances against Tottenham and Sunderland. And the veteran attacker now faces an anxious wait as further assessments are made ahead of the Gunners’ big game against Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
There are fears Trossard could be out for a number of weeks. Mikel Arteta admitted on Wednesday: “With Leo, we don’t know [the extent of the injury].

“He said he felt something. We didn’t want to take any risks, obviously.”
Noni Maduke got on the scoresheet after returning from injury to replace Trossard at the Emirates. But Arsenal’s injury list does not end there. Arteta is still hopeful that Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz could be available for this weekend’s top-of-the-table match against second-place Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The duo had scans on Wednesday to help clarify their recovery timelines.
Gyokeres has been missing since being substituted against Burnley earlier this month, while Havertz has been unavailable since the opening day of the season after undergoing surgery.
Gabriel Magalhaes is also understood to have had a further scan to establish a clearer picture of his potential recovery. The Brazil defender picked up an issue on international duty and initial tests suggested he was set to miss at least four weeks. It remains to be seen how well he has responded to treatment.
Speaking last week, Arteta appeared confident his side could cope with Gabriel’s absence despite his significant role alongside William Saliba. The Spaniard pointed to how the Gunners have handled being without the defender previously.
“I don’t know, obviously he’s a big, big player for us but the good thing is that we have experienced that,” said Arteta. “Last year, in the most crucial moment of the season, we were without him for three months and the team managed to remain super competitive.
“We won a lot of matches, we were defensively really good against very, very tough opponents, so we need to do it again.”
Arsenal face Chelsea on Sunday with a six-point advantage over their London rivals. Arteta’s side are unbeaten in seven against the Blues and have won five of those matches, though both draws came at Stamford Bridge.
