Leicester City‘s Hamza Choudhury ‘has been charged with drink-driving’ and will appear in court next month.

The former Premier League star, 26, was stopped by police in south Nottingham in the early hours of the morning last Friday.

It is understood that he refused to take a breathalyser test and was arrested at the scene, The Sun revealed.

He was then charged later with driving while over the alcohol limit, driving without due care and failing to cooperate with a preliminary breathalyser test.

Choudhury, who is paid £50,000-a-week by the Foxes, is currently on unconditional bail and will appear in court for the first time next month.

A source told The Sun: ‘He was driving very early in the morning and was pulled over by officers quite close to his home.

‘Because Leicester didn’t have a game the next day, he felt he could be out that late.

‘He is supposed to be a role model in the community and was seen as a future club captain as he grew up and matured.’

The defensive midfielder has been one of the best in his position all season long in the Championship, where Leicester sit seven points clear at the top of the table.

He also played the full 90 minutes in Leicester’s 1-1 draw with second-placed Ipswich on Monday night.

Now into his tenth year at Leicester, Choudhury has played 60 games for the club scoring only once.
