Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy arrives at Brentford to watch new team less than 24 hours after being confirmed as Steve Cooper’s replacement

Ruud van Nistelrooy arrived at the Vitality Stadium alongside Leicester City owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha ahead of Saturday’s game against Brentford.

Former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy had been announced as Leicester’s new manager less than 24 hours earlier.

Consequently, it was decided that Saturday’s game would come soon for him to take charge, so first team coach Ben Dawson was given the responsibility of leading the Foxes.

Van Nistelrooy posed for multiple photos with fans on his way into the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Dutchman also spoke to Sky Sports before entering the ground.

‘[I’m feeling] very good. Very good, very excited, very happy and I can’t wait to start.’

Asked if staying in the Premier League was going to be his main ambition this season, he replied: ‘Yeah, of course.

‘[The aim is to] get the maximum out of the squad, out of the players and as a whole. Obviously, the target is clear and we all know that.

‘I can’t wait to start.’

More to follow.
