Leicester fans expressed their fury towards their board as they flew a banner over the King Power Stadium before their 1-0 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.

Going in to the game, the Foxes knew that only a win would keep their already slim survival hopes alive. But any dreams of what would have been a miraculous escape were shattered by Liverpool, who consigned them to a 23rd league defeat of the season.

An increasing number of Leicester supporters are disillusioned with those at the top of the club, who also oversaw relegation to the Championship in 2023.

Director of football Jon Rudkin has been targeted by supporter chants throughout the campaign. Rudkin is a trusted ally of Leicester and chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha but finds himself in the spotlight for the club’s mixed transfer record in recent times.

Srivaddhanaprabha is also the chairman of Thai travel group King Power, the sponsor and namesake for Leicester’s home ground.

And on Sunday, a light aeroplane flew close above the King Power Stadium trailing the banner: ‘King Power Clueless. Sack The Board.’

Leciester’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed after Liverpool secured a 1-0 win

Backlash from Leicester towards their board has been frequent this season.

Before Leicester’s 2-0 defeat by Arsenal in February, a group of fans marched towards their home ground and urged fans to voice their frustrations in the 14th minute.

The number 14 related to the failed transfer of Adrien Silva in 2017. Leicester agreed a £22million deal to sign the Portuguese midfielder from Sporting Lisbon, only to miss the deadline to register him by 14 seconds.

And during Leicester’s 3-0 defeat by Newcastle on April 7, one banner in the stands read: ‘Stop Rudkins’ rot.’

The Foxes join Southampton in already being relegated to the Championship, with those two teams likely to be joined by Ipswich Town.

Should that occur, it would mark the second successive season that all three promoted sides sides have been relegated to the second tier at the first time of asking.
