Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has criticized Bayern Munich for fueling speculation about Florian Wirtz’s future through the media.

Bayern officials – most notably honorary president Uli Hoeneß – have repeatedly spoken publicly about their desire to sign Leverkusen’s 21-year-old star player.

However, Carro made it clear on Monday that, from Leverkusen’s perspective, there is no substance behind Bayern’s words.

“I expect him to stay,” Carro told reporters, referring to Wirtz, who is under contract until 2027.

“Bayern haven’t contacted us. So there is no offer from them,” he added.

“This is really just a show – it has nothing to do with me. Frankly, it’s inappropriate.”

According to reports, Leverkusen have already made an offer to extend Wirtz’s contract beyond 2027, with the decision now in the player’s hands.
