Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly considering making a move for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

According to Sport Bild, Matej Kovar could leave the club as he isn’t expected to be the club’s new number one and wants to play more.

Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is being touted as a possible replacement, with the report claiming that Leverkusen have sent scouts to Spain to watch him play.

Garcia, 23, has played two times for Spain’s Under-21 national team and has a contract with Espanyol until 2028.

The report mentions German under-20 goalkeeper Max Weiß of Karlsruher SC as an alternative.

The 20-year-old has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2. Bundesliga side and has one year left on his contract.

Lukas Hradecky has started the majority of Leverkusen’s games this season, but has had to share playing time with Kovar.

The 35-year-old veteran has made 28 appearances for the Werkself in the 2024/25 campaign, while Kovar has featured 13 times.
